Chef Jacquy Pfeiffer honored
The Institute of Arts and Popular Traditions of Alsace will honor Chef Jacquy Pfeiffer in Strasbourg on October 2, 2010 with the Bretzel d’Or, or “Golden Pretzel” award. Each year, the institute recognizes talented Alsatians who preserve the arts and traditions of Alsace, the culturally rich, eastern region of France, bordering Lorraine and Franche-Comté, with Germany to the east and Switzerland to the south. Chef Pfeiffer and other Golden Pretzel recipients not only safeguard Alsatian heritage, but promote it within the region, around France, and throughout the world. Chef Pfeiffer, originally from a small town near Strasbourg in Alsace, began his pastry training there, going on to work as Executive Pastry Chef for renowned establishments and international dignitaries like the Royal Family in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; the Sultan of Brunei; the Hyatt Regency in Hong Kong; and both the Fairmont and Sheraton hotels in Chicago, Illinois. Chef Pfeiffer, along with Chef Sébastien Canonne, M.O.F., later founded The French Pastry School in Chicago. “Receiving this award is a true honor,” said Jacquy Pfeiffer, Co-Founder and Academic Dean … Continue reading

Berlin Film Festival
Our Culinary Cinema screening at the Berlin Film Festival was a dream event. After the screening, the audience crossed the street to a wondrous mirrored tent where we were served a delicious duck en croute dinner cooked by award-winning Chef Lea Linster and pastries by created by chocolatier Josef Zotter. Along for the adventure was our producer Flora Lazar and associate producer Patricia Soussloff, as well as friends of the film, Lee Greenhouse, Jane Balfour and Susan Buckley.
Dox Box
We had the opportunity to show the film in Syria in March at Dox Box Film Festival in Damascus. We met plenty of French pastry lovers in the Arab world. The audience was fascinated by the competition and the skills of these amazing chefs.
IDFA Amsterdam
November 20, 2009 was our international premiere of Kings of Pastry at the historic Tuschinsky Theater at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam. The art deco theater was filled with over 900 people — it was a wonderful launch for the film.
Sheffield Film Festival
November 13, 2009 — we had our first screening at the Sheffield Film Festival in England. The festival’s “Meet Market” which connects TV buyers with producers was responsible for some of our European broadcast sales so we felt happy to go back to where it started with the help of our dear friend and sales agent, Jane Balfour. A wonderful, small festival for those who love documentaries.
